Myanmar music is the most remote from Western music. It is a little-known genre in Japan, but its uniquely evolved style is both strange and beautiful. Until now, when Myanmar music has been introduced in Japan, it has mostly been discussed in the context of world music, but that is too much of a shame. Its uniqueness can be found in free jazz/progressive/contemporary music/dub.
Murakami Kyoki, who has been conducting field research since 2016, will introduce its history and appeal by playing records, cassettes, CDs, and videos. In particular, there will be a first report on the results of his field research (noise scene and record digging) conducted in December 2023.

Hiroki Murakami Profile
Guitarist, composer, Myanmar mandolin player, and president of the independent label "CADISC. Pursuing a new rhythmic approach with guitar, he formed te_ri, a duo band with only guitar and drums, in 2007. 2011 toured Europe (France, Czech Republic, Austria), 2015 toured the U.S. Since 2016, he has been visiting Myanmar to research the local music. He has been conducting research. He holds talk events around Japan to report the results of his research. As a researcher of Myanmar music, he has contributed to "ROADSIDER'S weekly" led by Kyoichi Tsuzuki, appeared on Naohiro Ukawa's "DOMMUNE", lectured at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and appeared on NHK's "International Report".

西洋音楽から最も離れた位置にあるミャンマー音楽。日本ではあまり知られていないジャンルですが、独特に進化したそのスタイルは奇妙かつ美しくあります。今まで日本でミャンマー音楽を紹介する時はワールドミュージックの文脈で語られることがほとんどでしたが、それはあまりに惜しい。その独自性はフリージャズ/プログレ/現代音楽/ダブにも通じます。
2016年から現地調査を行っている村上巨樹が、レコード、カセット、CD、映像などを流しながらその歴史と魅力を紹介します。特に今回は、2023年12月に行った現地調査の結果(ノイズシーンやレコード掘り)の初報告があります。

村上巨樹 プロフィール
ギタリスト、作曲家、ミャンマーマンドリン奏者、自主レーベル「CADISC」主宰。ギターを使った新たなリズムアプローチを追求している。2007年、ギターとドラムだけのデュオバンドte_riを結成。2011年にヨーロッパツアー(フランス、チェコ、オーストリア)、2015年にアメリカツアーを行う。2016年からミャンマーを訪問し、現地の音楽を調査している。その結果を報告するトークイベントを日本各地で開催。ミャンマー音楽の研究家として、都築響一主宰「ROADSIDER’S weekly」への寄稿、宇川直宏「DOMMUNE」への出演、東京外国語大学での講演、NHK「国際報道」への出演などを行う。
