"What's the graphic score ?"

Graphic score is a musical score not using so-called 'five-line staves'. How do we read it? How do we play it? We examine graphic scores by composers like John Cage, Morton Feldman, Toru Takemitsu, Toshi Ichiyanagi and so on. And we play some of them together. (You don't need skills to play instruments).

We help each participant make his/her own graphic score.

We play together graphic scores of our making, though it is not obligatory to join the performance. Audience will be welcome.

Facilitator: Takuji Kawai (pianist/composer/improviser)

Born in 1963. Pianist-performer of contemporary written music and improvised music, and he has long been engaged in experimental music. Has played graphic scores of Cage, Takemitsu, and notably Ichiyanagi whose scores from 1960s he played and recorded to gain much appreciation of the composer. Has lived in Itoshima, Fukuoka since 2012. TAKUJI KAWAI WEB
