Adachi Masao is one of the most controversial figures in Japanese cinema history. He has worked not only as a director but also as a screen writer, actor and activist in Japan an the Middle East. During a career spanning over 50 years he has traversed the genres of experimental and pink film cinema as well as documentary. His scripts have been adapted by Wakamatsu Koji, Oshima Nagisa and Eric Baudelaire. His association with the Japanese Red Army has led to incarceration in both the Middle East and his native Japan which the Japanese governmint forbids him to leave. Adachi's films are regularly screened and discussed at retrospectives around the world. Born in KItakyushu, Adachi now lives in Tokyo and is planning his next film. The Against 2014 : Extreme Film Festival will provide a unique opportunity to engage in person with one of the icons of Japanese radical cinema.
